Thirukurangudi is a traditional village located south of Nangunerithat has a1500 years history and a connection with Travancore kings. The AzhagiaNambirayar temple and the ThirukurangudiPeriakulam(Vattakulam) are important landmarks of the village. While travelling from Kalakad to Thirukurunguditank is on the right and one could see signage directing you to look towards the hills westwards for MalaimelNambiKovil. It is common to see travellers join their palms to worship the Lord Vishnu, locally called Nambi. The KumilyThoombu (stone structure part of traditional water management at lakes) can be prominently seen in this tank. This tank supports good birdlife andprovides livelihood opportunity for local people during summer as they collect AmalaiKilangu (CroptocoryneSpiralis )that is usedin herbal medicine and sold for a good price.
