LAUNCH OF NELLAI NEERVALAM

Nellai Neervalam is a unique community engagement and management framework for water security and ecological conservation designed and developed by the District Administration, Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. The initiative was launched by Hon'ble Minister for Industries Mr. Thangam Thennarasu on 30th June 2021

TRAILS OF TAMIRABARANI - Book Launch

“Trails of Tamiraparani” is an attempt to capture the myriad hues of the landscape, the travails of the past, its glorious heritage, and the prosperity of the region. The book comprises four chapters—Ainthinai, Panpadu, Varalaru, and Vazhviyal as enshrined in the ancient Tamil Sangam literature. Ainthinai (landscapes), captures the five vivid landscapes of Tirunelveli from the mountains to the shores, while Panpadu (culture) reminisces the symbols of past glory. Varalaru (history) offers a glimpse into the transition from Tinnevelly to Tirunelveli and Vazhviyal is a colorful narrative of people, culture, and livelihoods.

VEINTHANKULAM ISLAND TREE PLANTATION

Planting trees is a solution for many environmental campaigns in recent years. Various types of saplings are planted in different parts of Tirunelveli district by our collector Mr.V.Vishnu on the occasion of World Environment Day. The saplings were planted at the eco park at Veinthaan Kulam in Palayamkottai, Thattaparai in Veeravanallur Town Panchayat and a few other locations on the day.

MEENDUM MANJAPAI

There are many proverbs and quotes to avoid plastic like “Do something drastic, cut the plastic!” We are just reading and not following but our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has launched the ‘Meendum Manjappai’ scheme to promote the use of cloth bags by the public and discourage the use of plastic bags.

Collector V. Vishnu organized and inaugurated21 students from Florence Swainson High School for the Deaf, who had an experience of a lifetime when they visited the Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve to commemorate the birthday of the 'Birdman of India'. Salim Ali.

CYCLE RALLY TIRUNELVELI - PAPANASAM

Collector V. Vishnu and Corporation Commissioner P. Vishnu Chandran pedalled about 18 km on Saturday to create awareness among the public about the need to protect Thamirabarani, other water bodies, birds and heritage structures along the river. “We will continue to hold cycle rallies on Sundays to explain to the public the need to preserve nature and heritage. Also, this rally will encourage them to be physically fit,” said Mr. Vishnu.

MIRACLE WELL

In Tirunelveli district, Last year during the northeast monsoon, 3 thousand cubic feet of water came per second. Even after several days of water coming, the miracle well is not full. After this they appointed IIT professors to study this miracle well. The IIT team has been examining the miracle well and more than 50 wells around it for the last 3 months with sophisticated instruments and cameras. Through this they have obtained various information.

Volunteers Training Program

Collector Vishnu said that the volunteers should know the preciousness of water and restore Thamirabarani without changing its age. Officers and volunteers who took Social Justice Day pledge under the leadership of Collector Vishnu during the training for volunteers. Over 250 volunteers have participated in this training.

DRINKABLE TAMIRABARANI

Tirunelveli District Collector Vishnu Venugopal said, “The idea is to rejuvenate not just the Thamirabarani but all the waterbodies in the riverscape of Tirunelveli. We are doing that now because extensive water testing parameters have now shown that the river water is of bathing quality. The aim is to bring it up to drinking water standards by 2024.
