The chain of tanks;Rajavallipuram, Kalkurichi, Kuupakurichi, Palamadai were dug during the period of SrivallabhaPandya (830-862 AD). South of these tanks flows the river Tamiraparani and towards the North the river Chithar .KumiliThoombu, reminiscence of the traditional water management is available in Rajavallipuram tank. Two sastha Temples located in the south bank of Rajavallipuram tank has several old trees. The tank attracts a good number of waterbirds including the rare Greater Flamingos.
